November 13, 2020 – conference

Location: MGIMO, Moscow, Russia

The recent period of the evolution of the world economy is the era of sustainable development. By now the humanity has finally realized and officially accepted the existence and depth of negative consequences of the world economy growth, as well as the importance of their elimination. This is reflected in the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) - proclaimed by the United Nations (UN) in 2015 - for the medium term – by 2030. The initiative is called “ Transforming our world: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development ”.

Alongside, all members of the international community are involved in the fourth industrial revolution. Digitalization of the economy is giving the opportunity for the transition to a new technological system – industry 4.0 – by 2030. Digital technologies spread widely and deeply penetrate the economy developing the information society, digital business and e-governance. High technologies and goods manufactured on their basis create new markets and define the world economy competitiveness.

Outlined processes are not concurrent but tightly interrelated and interdependent. This highlights the problem of estimation and maximization of the industry 4.0 impact on climate change, including higher energy demand as a result of production automation, distribution and consumption of goods and services and increase of industrial waste, i.e. obsolete equipment disposal, arising from economy digitalization. Besides, there is a problem of usage of industry 4.0 possibilities to manage the consequences of climate change, involving climate change control, “green” and circular economy development and higher ecological responsibility.

Stated issues form new branch of scientific research – “Climate change in the context of industry 4.0”. The conference aims to raise the awareness of the world academic society and to combine the effort of climate change and industry 4.0 researchers for systematic study of the common problems and their solving.

In addition, the conference should contribute to the practical implementation of the Instruction of the President of the Russian Federation for the Government of the Russian Federation (2017) on the outcome of the meeting of the State council on the ecological development of Russia to the benefit of future generations. The Instruction involves statements that somehow appear groundbreaking for Russia in matters of economy and ecology. Thus, the conference is to focus on identification and solving of relevant problems of institutionalization of ways of tackling climate change in the context of industry 4.0.

Official languages: russian, english.

The conference will have the following sections:

•  Section 1: Energy sector in the context of industry 4.0. The Section covers such issues, as growth of energy consumption in the context of industry 4.0, alternative energy sources, energy crisis-management, digital opportunities of energy efficiency improvement of the economy (Smart Grid)

The Section covers such issues, as implementation of “green” innovations and development of “green” production in the context of industry 4.0, digital growth of “green” economy, improvements in transport and logistics on the basis of “green investments” as a growth vector for “green” economy in the context of industry 4.0.

•  Section 4: Climate change control in the context of industry 4.0. The Section covers such issues, as digital state-public control and environmental management, development of non-profit organizations on the basis of industry 4.0, creation of “smart” houses and regions that control climate change and reduce negative impact of the economy on the environment.

The Section covers such issues, as development and institutionalization of corporate ecological e-reports, organization of ecologically-friendly production based on artificial intelligence, ubiquitous computing, Internet of things and other innovative technologies of industry 4.0.

•  Section 6: Accounting and statistic issues of the analysis of sustainable development in the era of industry 4.0. The Section covers such issues, as transformation of international statistical standards towards sustainable development, role of digitalization in the development of macroeconomical indicators and SNA, current state and prospects of development of statistical indicators of sustainable development in Russia and the CIS, aspects of ecological accounting and managing, role of ecological cost in the financial result of a company, analysis of report on sustainable development of a company.

Within the conference, scientific researches on the prospects of solving of current problems of climate change on the basis of industry 4.0 possibilities in today's Russia are appreciated.
